Chemically, diamonds are made from pure carbon and are highly distinguished for their beauty as a jewel. Generally found as colorless stones, diamonds sometimes also come in tints of blue, green, black, yellow, brown, pink or orange. All diamonds are crystals, most of them having eight sides arranged to form a double pyramid but some have six sides while others have twelve sides.
Diamond is the birthstone for April and is said to signify innocence. According to cliché, diamonds are said to be a woman’s bestfriend because of their eccentric beauty that amuses every lady of these fine jewels.
Diamonds are highly regarded gems due to their rarity and their capability to refract light to greater degree than other precious stones. The refraction that a diamond can do can create the light that enters it to be broken down into several colors which provide it the natural shimmer when we see it. But the importance of diamonds is not limited only to their innate beauty but also to their extreme hardness. Diamond is the hardest natural substance known and it can only be scratched by another diamond. It will not dissolve in any kind of liquid and it will not melt even with extreme heat. This characteristic of diamonds makes it a tough jewelry choice that will last a very long, long time.
